Pembrokeshire: Poppit Sands to Ceibwr Bay
Pembrokeshire
The very northern end of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path is also one of its most spectacular, a quiet stretch of high clifftop and remote coves between the long sands of Poppit at the mouth of the Teifi and the geologically remarkable folded cliffs of Ceibwr Bay. This dog friendly walk follows the Coast Path south from Poppit Sands over Cemaes Head, with seabird and seal spotting throughout, finishing at the small cove of Ceibwr.
This is a strenuous walk on grassy clifftop with several steep climbs and exposed cliff edges, including the highest sea cliffs in Wales at Cemaes Head. Dogs must be kept under close control on the cliff top sections and on the lead through the regular sheep fields. Poppit Sands has seasonal dog restrictions on part of the beach (1 May to 30 September) but the northern end is dog friendly all year. Free parking at Ceibwr is very limited (use Moylgrove village instead), pay and display at Poppit Sands.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Pembrokeshire: Poppit Sands to Ceibwr Bay dog friendly?
This walk scores a solid 8/10 for dog friendliness, and it's a genuinely rewarding route for dogs and owners alike — wild, scenic, and relatively quiet. Dogs are welcome throughout, though Poppit Sands has seasonal restrictions on part of the beach between 1 May and 30 September, so bear in mind the time of year if you're planning to let your dog enjoy the sand at the start of the walk. The northern end of the beach remains dog friendly all year round.
Can dogs be off lead at Pembrokeshire: Poppit Sands to Ceibwr Bay?
There are sections where off-lead time is possible, but this walk requires careful lead management throughout. Dogs must be kept on the lead through sheep fields, and close control is essential on the clifftop sections due to exposed edges — this route includes the highest sea cliffs in Wales at Cemaes Head. It's a walk that suits confident, responsive dogs whose owners are comfortable handling them on challenging terrain.
What should I know before visiting Pembrokeshire: Poppit Sands to Ceibwr Bay with my dog?
This is a strenuous clifftop walk with several steep climbs, so it's best suited to fit dogs and owners prepared for a more demanding day out. Facilities are all at the Poppit Sands end, including a café, toilets, and the dog friendly Captain's Table — there's nothing at Ceibwr, so plan accordingly. If you're finishing at Ceibwr, note that free parking there is very limited; Moylgrove village is the recommended alternative for leaving a second car.
