Dylan's Retreat is a charming character cottage for two in a quiet corner of Brecon, made for couples who travel with their dog. Dog-welcoming pubs, independent shops, cafes and a variety of great restaurants are a short walk from the door, so once you arrive at this dog friendly cottage there is no need to drive to enjoy the best of the area.

Inside, the interior is stylish, finished with interesting artwork and soft furnishings. In the cosy lounge an armchair and comfortable seating are drawn up to the wood burner, there is a Smart TV for relaxed nights in, and maps and books are on hand for planning the next adventure. The dog will have settled by the burner long before the route is chosen. The open-plan kitchen/diner is well equipped for everything from lazy breakfasts to packing a picnic for a day on the hills.

Upstairs is the peaceful double bedroom, en-suite with a shower. Out in the enclosed courtyard garden, a table, chairs and a BBQ are ready for summer suppers or simply sitting out, and it is safe for the dog to potter around while you relax. A lockable shed takes the bikes.

Brecon is full of charm and history, with a cathedral, a theatre, a cinema and a museum, and the Brecon Canal, riverside walks and the scenery of the national park are close by. Whether the day calls for a gentle stroll or a more adventurous hike, you and your dog will be spoilt for choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Dylan's Retreat dog friendly?

Yes, Dylan's Retreat welcomes one dog. The cottage has an enclosed courtyard garden at the back which is ideal for dogs, and the whole place is sized in a way that suits one dog and two people perfectly.

  • Are dogs allowed at Dylan's Retreat year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and the setup — including the enclosed courtyard and a wood burner for cooler months — suggests it's suited to year-round visits. It's always worth confirming directly with the host if you're planning a winter stay.

  • What should I know before visiting Dylan's Retreat with my dog?

The retreat accepts one dog, and the cottage is genuinely set up for it — there's an enclosed courtyard garden for outdoor time, and Brecon itself is very walkable with a lead. Captain's Walk, which follows the line of the medieval town walls, is a short circuit right on the doorstep and a good option for an early morning leg-stretch before breakfast.
