Book now

You go in under an arched doorway. East Lodge is a Category C listed lodge at Scatwell, where Strathconon opens out in the Highlands, and it is a characterful, dog friendly house for six, three bedrooms and a garden of mature trees gathered from around the world, with two dogs welcome.

At the back of the house, off the kitchen, is a boot room with a lobby, and that is the way in and out for the dogs: wet boots off, coats hung, dogs dried, and then the door to the garden. The garden is large and enclosed, landscaped by the owners, with a lawn, a patio at the top beside a firepit, and seating round it. Two dogs can be left to explore it while the fire gets going and the trees go dark.

Inside, the hallway leads to a living room with a big bay window, a stone hearth round the wood burner and a Chesterfield sofa, which the dogs will consider theirs by the second night. There is a study off the hall, a kitchen built round a range cooker and open to the dining table, and a cloakroom. Upstairs are two kingsize bedrooms and a twin, each looking out over woods and fields, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower.

Walks go up the glen from the door, and red deer and birds of prey are often seen within a short walk, so dogs are best kept on a lead out there. There is fly fishing for trout and salmon close by. Rogie Falls, where salmon leap in season, is a short drive, and Ben Wyvis is there for a big day on the hill with the dogs. Inverness and Loch Ness are both within reach.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is East Lodge dog friendly?

Yes, East Lodge is a dog-friendly property that welcomes up to two dogs. There's a dedicated boot room off the kitchen that acts as the dogs' entry and exit point, keeping muddy paws well away from the rest of the house, and the large enclosed garden gives them plenty of room to roam freely.

  • Are dogs allowed at East Lodge year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so they appear to be welcome throughout the year. That said, it's always worth confirming directly with the owners when you book, particularly if you're planning a visit around busy periods.

  • What should I know before visiting East Lodge with my dog?

A maximum of two dogs are allowed, and the boot room off the kitchen is the designated route in and out for them — handy after muddy glen walks. The garden is large and enclosed, so dogs can be left to explore safely, but on walks up the glen it's worth keeping them on a lead, as red deer and birds of prey are regularly spotted nearby.
