Fox And Hounds Cottage is a pretty, detached stone cottage in a peaceful rural spot near Devauden, with big skies and wide views over the rolling Monmouthshire countryside. This five star, dog friendly home has beds for four sleepers and a warm welcome for two dogs, and the rear garden is fully fenced and dog proof, with country walks starting right from the door.

Indoors, the dining area has exposed oak beams and an original stone flagged floor with underfloor heating beneath it, and the sitting room has a wood burning stove, an armchair and a TV with DVD player for the evenings. A few steps lead to the spacious kitchen, and the utility room beside it, with a washing machine, tumble dryer and drying racks, takes care of wet coats and dog towels after a long walk.

A patio door opens onto a terrace with gorgeous countryside views, a fine place to while away the hours listening to the birdsong while two dogs investigate the garden. A barbecue, a fire pit and outdoor seating in the summer months complete it. Upstairs are two extremely comfortable bedrooms, both with countryside views: the king size, with its Loaf bed and en suite, and a twin. The main bathroom, with bath and shower, is on the ground floor.

Wonderful country walks set off straight from the door with the dogs, and the Gloucestershire Way and Offa's Dyke Path are both within ten minutes, with the Wye Valley right alongside and the Black Mountains within easy reach. Chepstow's castle is a short drive, and Tintern, famed for its abbey ruins and its books, makes a lazy afternoon. The Forest of Dean has the Sculpture Trail at Beechenhurst Woods and Puzzlewood.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Fox And Hounds Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Fox And Hounds Cottage welcomes dogs — up to two on a booking. The cottage has been set up with dogs genuinely in mind, from the original stone flagged entrance floor with underfloor heating beneath it to a fully fenced garden the owner describes as dog proof, which is a stronger promise than most places make.

  • Are dogs allowed at Fox And Hounds Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and nothing in the property details suggests otherwise. If you want to confirm availability for specific dates, it's worth checking directly with the owner when you book.

  • What should I know before visiting Fox And Hounds Cottage with my dog?

You can bring two dogs, and they'll have plenty to keep them busy — footpaths leave the cottage in three directions, with Offa's Dyke Path a few minutes east and the Forest of Dean across the water offering waymarked trails and old mine tracks. The rear garden is fully fenced and leads straight off the patio, so you can let them out safely while you settle in. There's also a second bathroom downstairs handy for rinsing muddy dogs off before they make themselves at home on the stone flagged entrance floor.
