The Pig Sty is a converted stone barn at Green Farm, down a private lane in the village of Cutthorpe on the eastern edge of the Peak District, and from the gate there are footpaths and bridleways through woodland to the water. Four people and two dogs share this dog friendly conversion.
A dog has two places to go outside, and they are not the same. The garden is private to the barn and enclosed, with a patio, furniture, a barbecue and a covered hot tub, which can be added to the booking. The owners also keep a dog walking field on the farm, shared by the three cottages, where dogs can be let off for a run with neighbours around.
Indoors the ground floor is open, with exposed stone walls, a leather corner sofa and a wood burner, and the kitchen and dining room has a table big enough to spread out. Underfloor heating runs through the downstairs, so the dogs will choose a patch of floor and keep it. Upstairs are a double with a picture window over the countryside, an en suite twin, and a bathroom. A communal store holds games and DVDs.
Cutthorpe itself has a village green and two pubs that welcome dogs, both within walking distance. Chatsworth is ten minutes away by car, its park open for a long walk, with deer and sheep grazing, so dogs stay on leads, and beyond it the gritstone edges at Curbar and Froggatt look out over the Derwent valley. Bakewell, Eyam and Hathersage are all close.
