Looe, Cornwall
Five canvas hideaways on the edge of the Dennis family's Cornish farm near Looe, overlooking a meadow, with a hot tub to hire, and room for two dogs on the lead.
The Dennis family have farmed Gwel Teg for more than 35 years, and their five canvas hideaways sit on the edge of the farm overlooking a meadow. It makes a lovely dog friendly base for a family holiday near Looe: two dogs are welcome and walk on the lead about the farm, home to sheep, beef cattle and two friendly goats who love to say hello.
Inside, three bedrooms with wonderfully comfortable Feather Down mattresses, a fully equipped kitchen and the wood burner that heats and cooks. There is no electricity, which the family call their greatest luxury. Children have plenty of space to play, and you can keep an eye on them from the veranda while the dog stretches out beside you. One hot tub is available to hire.
Spring brings the lambs, and guests are welcome to help with the bottle feeding. The farm runs to 300 acres with 270 British Blue beef cattle, ewes and a crop of barley, and Roger is always happy to talk about farm life if you ask him about the tour. The honesty shop has everything for a stew, and a dog back from a day out will happily settle by the stove.
Looe, with its beaches and boat trips, is a short drive away, and from the harbour a boat goes out to the nature reserve on Looe Island for seals and seabirds. Further along the coast is Fowey with its estuary and harbour, and the Eden Project is within easy reach. Wherever the day goes, the dog comes home to the quiet of the meadow.

Book with Feather Down FarmsFrequently Asked Questions
Is Gwel Teg Farm dog friendly?
Yes, Gwel Teg Farm welcomes dogs — up to two per booking. The canvas hideaways sit on the edge of a working farm with sheep and cattle nearby, so dogs are on the lead throughout, but there's a veranda facing the meadow where your dog can settle on a long line while you get on with the cooking.
Are dogs allowed at Gwel Teg Farm year round?
The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dogs, but it's worth being aware that the farm has sheep that lamb in spring, and bottle-feeding the lambs is one of the highlights of a stay at that time of year. If you're visiting in the lambing season, the lead rule is especially important and worth keeping firmly in mind.
What should I know before visiting Gwel Teg Farm with my dog?
The key thing to know is that dogs must be on the lead at all times on the farm — there's no enclosed garden, so that's the arrangement for the whole stay. There are also two friendly goats roaming around, and sheep and beef cattle on the property, so your dog will need to be comfortable in a working farm environment. The flip side is that the coast path and dog-friendly beaches around Looe are just a short drive away when you're ready for a day out.
