Book now

Hawthorn Escape is a charming former toll house dating back to 1762, tucked away on a quiet country lane at Heapham and thoughtfully styled for couples and their dogs. Two dogs come along to this romantic and dog friendly toll house, with countryside walks right on the doorstep and a network of scenic footpaths beyond.

Inside, character and comfort sit together. Low beams and cosy touches make the lounge a welcoming space, with a reclining leather seat you may find hard to leave once the dogs have settled at your feet. The kitchen is bright and airy in neutral tones, with a table for two, and the double bedroom is serene, with a window over the garden. The stylish bathroom offers the best of both worlds, a freestanding bath for long soaks and a generous overhead shower to start the day.

Outside is where the cottage really shines. The enclosed garden has the private hot tub, with a parasol over it, seating for dining outdoors, a gas BBQ and, as the owner says, plenty of space to let the dogs run around. An outside hot water tap is a welcome touch when the dogs come home from the footpaths, and close to the cottage a wildlife pond with seating makes a peaceful spot for the evening.

The local favourites are coal fired fish and chips in Upton and the ice cream parlour at Blyton. Aviation fans may spot unusual aircraft from a nearby airfield built for the Second World War, with the Red Arrows practising over the county, and Hemswell Antiques Centre and the city of Lincoln make good days out. The owner asks that dogs are not left unattended in the property.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Hawthorn Escape dog friendly?

Yes, Hawthorn Escape welcomes up to two dogs. The property has an enclosed garden, so your dogs can be outside safely, and there's a private hot tub in the garden for you to enjoy while they settle in.

  • Are dogs allowed at Hawthorn Escape year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and the setup genuinely suits year-round visits. There's an outside hot water tap on the exterior wall — useful for washing off muddy paws in winter without any of the usual indoor chaos.

  • What should I know before visiting Hawthorn Escape with my dog?

The standout practical feature is an outside tap that runs hot water — rare enough that it's worth planning around. Bring your dogs back from a walk, rinse them off outside before anything comes indoors, and the evening is already easier. The surrounding area around Heapham is quiet arable countryside with lanes and field paths, which suits dogs well, though it's calm rather than dramatic terrain.
