1 / 16Heatherdene
Goathland, North Yorkshire
A former hunting lodge sleeping twenty one at Goathland in the North York Moors, eight en suite bedrooms, open fires, an enclosed rear garden and four dogs welcome.
Heatherdene was built in 1899 as a hunting lodge, spent some years as a boarding school, and is now a dog friendly house for twenty one at Goathland, in the middle of the North York Moors. Eight bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, and room for four dogs.
The living room has an open fire, a second sitting room has a wood burner, the grand dining room takes the whole party round one table, and the kitchen is built round an oil Aga. A coat and boots room deals with the mud before it goes any further, and a stair gate and fireguard are provided, so four dogs can be kept to the ground floor. Behind the house is an enclosed garden, patio and barbecue included, which the dogs visit first thing and last thing.
The bedrooms fill the two floors above: six on the first floor, two more at the top of the house, half of them with an extra single for a child, and a study on the first floor for anyone who needs one. Picture the end of a day here: two fires lit, twenty one people winding down across two sitting rooms, and four dogs spread along the hearths as though the hunting lodge had been built round them.
Goathland is the village that played Heartbeat's Aidensfield, stone houses round wide open greens that four dogs will want to inspect on the way out. Mallyan Spout, a waterfall in the wooded gorge below, is 0.3 miles away, and the heather moor rolls out in every direction. Falling Foss, the Hole of Horcum and the steam railway through Grosmont are all close, and Whitby is about twenty minutes by car.

Are dogs allowed at Heatherdene year round?
The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, and with an enclosed garden, open fires, and a hearth to stretch out beside, it's the kind of place that suits dogs in any season. For confirmation of availability at specific times of year, it's worth checking directly with the property.
