La Cantera is a beautifully styled and spacious cottage in the rural village of St Ishmaels, within easy reach of the dog friendly beaches at Sandy Haven, Marloes Sands and St Brides Bay. Two dogs are welcome, and the wraparound garden is fully enclosed with lockable gates, which in the owner's words keeps children and dogs safe.

You step straight into one large open plan room of lounge, kitchen and dining space, where two comfortable leather sofas face the Smart TV and a cosy wood burning stove. Patio doors lead out to the decking, and the dining table sits by the kitchen, so the cooking and the conversation happen together while the dogs watch from the doorway. The three tranquil bedrooms are a king size, an en suite double and a family room with bunks and a single.

Decking leads onto raised gravel areas with plenty of seating, and the Mediterranean style garden, with its rockeries, wraps round the house to catch the sun at every hour. There is a barbecue plinth for disposable barbecues, an undercover chalkboard and skittles for the children, and an outdoor shower for rinsing off the sand after the beach, so the two dogs come back inside clean.

Lindsway Bay is a secluded stretch of sand down cliff steps, Monk Haven is reached by a walk down a wooded valley past an ancient church, and Sandy Haven, 1.5 miles off, gives two dogs a 2 mile estuary to explore at low tide. The village has a pub and a popular tearoom, and in summer you can take a boat out to Skomer Island to see the puffins.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is La Cantera dog friendly?

Yes, La Cantera welcomes up to two dogs. The cottage has lockable gates around the garden, patio doors that let dogs move freely between the living room and decking, and an outdoor shower by the front door specifically for rinsing off muddy paws and legs after beach trips.

  • Are dogs allowed at La Cantera year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and with three beaches walkable from the door and a coast path that runs around this corner of Pembrokeshire, it's set up as a year-round dog-friendly base. It's always worth confirming directly with the owner if you're planning a visit at a specific time of year.

  • What should I know before visiting La Cantera with my dog?

The maximum is two dogs. The garden is fully enclosed with lockable gates, so dogs can roam safely outside, and the outdoor shower will earn its keep — all three nearby beaches (Lindsway Bay, Monk Haven and Sandy Haven estuary) tend to send dogs home thoroughly coated in sand and mud. The pub is just 0.25 miles away, so check their own dog policy if you're planning to head over.
