La Fina runs up three floors in the middle of Keswick and puts a king bedroom on top of them, looking out over the roofs towards the fells. Six sleep here, two dogs are along for the week, and the enclosed garden off the kitchen is a suntrap with a water feature running in it. Dog friendly and minutes from everything, which in this town is the difficult half.
The hall takes coats and boots at the door before anything else happens. Off it, lounge and dining space share one room with a log burner, and the kitchen is a step down at the end of it. On the half landing above, a claw foot bath stands free of the wall with a separate shower beside it. A twin looks over the garden and a king has its own shower room, while the dogs settle for the kitchen step.
The garden door has stood open all afternoon and the water feature is the loudest thing in the house. One dog is asleep across the kitchen step, which is the worst place available, and nobody has asked it to move. A bath is running on the half landing. Somebody is back from the lake with wet trousers and has gone past the lot of them.
Crow Park is a few minutes down to the water, a bare green rise where the ring of fells comes right round and the lake runs away south into Borrowdale. Boats call at jetties along the shore and will carry a dog across and back. Behind it the town keeps the theatre, the shops and everywhere to eat. Above that, Skiddaw and Latrigg give a full day or a short one as required.
