Book now

Maes Mawr is a period house tucked away within over 400 acres of Snowdonia National Park, with views of the mountains and Crafnant Lake and walks from the doorstep, and this dog friendly base sleeps six people with two dogs.

A gate in the walled garden leads to the porch, and inside the well equipped kitchen has an Aga and lovely mountain views. Through from it, the spacious dining room has its own wood burner and views towards the lake, and the lounge has a second wood burner, comfy seating, a smart TV and a feature window, so the dogs have a choice of fires to stretch out in front of after the walk. Upstairs, three welcoming bedrooms all have lovely views and smart TVs, a double with an en suite bathroom, a second double and a twin, with a shower room as well.

Outside, the utility room has a washing machine and lots of drying space for coats and boots, just what is wanted after a day on the hills with two dogs. The walled garden has a pond and a stream running through it, with vista gateways looking towards the mountains and the lake, and a table and chairs for eating outdoors. With a permit you can fish the lake, a short stroll from the garden.

Trefriw has eateries, shops and its Woollen Mill, Llanrwst has its three arched bridge and Tudor Gwydir Castle, and Betws-y-Coed is full of outdoor activity, craft shops and cafés. The area is full of historic bridges, waterfalls, river pools and hill top lakes, Swallow Falls and Bodnant Garden are close, and the planned walks from Llyn Crafnant mean the dogs can be out on a new path every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Maes Mawr dog friendly?

Yes, Maes Mawr welcomes up to two dogs. The walled garden is enclosed and generously sized — big enough for dogs to have a proper run around rather than just pace in circles, and the gate in the garden wall takes care of the security question the moment you arrive.

  • Are dogs allowed at Maes Mawr year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. Given the nature of the property — a remote cottage with an Aga, wood burners and a separate utility room for drying off wet gear — it's well set up for a visit in any season.

  • What should I know before visiting Maes Mawr with my dog?

The walled garden is enclosed and secure, so your dogs have a safe space from the moment you arrive. The utility room is a separate outbuilding rather than part of the main house, which actually works in your favour — it's the ideal place to sort out wet dogs and muddy kit after a day on the hills. There's an Aga in the kitchen keeping things permanently warm, and you can expect at least one dog to claim the spot beside it before you've finished unpacking.
