The owners gave the dogs a room. Not a corner of the utility but a separate room beside the kitchen for drying off, which is the first thing anyone with two wet spaniels will notice about Maheshwar. The barn sleeps six across three en-suite bedrooms, dog friendly, and outside the enclosed garden a private fenced field is kept for the dogs.

The living room runs 30 feet, a wood burner at its middle and a table for six at the end of it. The kitchen is galley style and next door. All three bedrooms carry their own bathroom, shower rooms with the two kings and a double ended bath with the twin, which removes the one argument six people reliably have. The dogs get the tiled end.

Somebody took a ball out to the field and neither dog has come back. From the garden you can watch them running wide circles round a fence line with nothing in it, which is apparently the point. The hot tub is on and the moors have gone the colour they go. Indoors four people are establishing whose turn it is to cook and getting nowhere with it.

Kirkbymoorside keeps a market on Wednesdays, a gallery and a run of antique shops, and the moor road climbs north out of the town onto open heather within a couple of miles. Hutton le Hole lies west, where the Ryedale Folk Museum has moved a dozen buildings onto one field, a cruck house and a working forge among them, all of it outdoors and dogs allowed round the lot. Cropton Forest is the other way.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Maheshwar dog friendly?

Very much so. The owners have set aside a dedicated drying room beside the kitchen — a proper tiled space for muddy paws and wet coats, not just a corner somewhere. Outside, there's an enclosed garden and a private fenced field kept specifically for the dogs to run in.

  • Are dogs allowed at Maheshwar year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions, and the setup — a drying room, a fenced field, a hot tub on the terrace — suggests it's a place built with year-round dog owners in mind. It's worth confirming directly with the owners if you're planning a winter or spring visit.

  • What should I know before visiting Maheshwar with my dog?

Up to two dogs are welcome. The barn has a dedicated drying room off the kitchen, which is genuinely useful after a day on the North York Moors, and there's a private fenced field where dogs can run off lead. Nearby, the Ryedale Folk Museum at Hutton le Hole is dog friendly throughout its outdoor site, and open moorland is only a couple of miles north of Kirkbymoorside.
