The road to Moinadh Cottage winds through villages and along the shore before it sets you down between green fields and the sea near Blackwaterfoot, on Arran's quiet west side. The whole house is wrapped in an enclosed garden, which for a dog friendly stay sleeping eight is the right way round: one dog, welcome everywhere the grass goes.

It is a whitewashed, stone walled cottage that has kept its character: a dining room seating eight, a wood burner in the lounge, and not one sunroom but two, the larger with patio doors opening to sunsets over the water. A double bedroom and a walk in shower sit downstairs; upstairs are a king, a twin, a bunk room sleeping four and a snug the children will annex. The dog's bowl belongs in the kitchen breakfast room, at the centre of everything.

Evenings here take care of themselves. The BBQ lit in the garden, children running the grass down to nothing, the dog patrolling a boundary it can actually trust, and the bird feeding station staging its dramas outside the sunroom glass. There is an enclosed kennel outside as well, for a dog that prefers its own quarters after a big day.

Blackwaterfoot and its little harbour are 1 mile away for bread and bike hire, and the rest of Arran unrolls from there: Goatfell for the summit day, the Brodick to Lamlash coastal path for something kinder, and beaches on every side of an island that is very good to dogs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Moinadh Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Moinadh Cottage welcomes one dog, and they're at home throughout the property. The whole house is surrounded by an enclosed garden, so your dog can roam freely without you having to worry about boundaries — and there's even an outdoor kennel if they prefer their own space after a big day out.

  • Are dogs allowed at Moinadh Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that Arran is a genuinely dog-friendly island year round, with beaches and walking routes to suit every season.

  • What should I know before visiting Moinadh Cottage with my dog?

The cottage welcomes one dog, so it's not the place for a multi-dog household. Your dog will have the run of the enclosed garden and the house, with a dedicated spot in the kitchen breakfast room — and the garden boundary is secure enough to be trusted, which makes a real difference on a relaxed holiday.
