New Oak Cottage is a spacious barn conversion deep in the Monmouthshire countryside on the fringes of Llandenny, one of two converted farm barns, with views across the hedgerows to the country beyond. Six guests and two dogs fit happily into this dog friendly barn, and it comes with something every dog owner will love: an enclosed garden with a separate enclosed paddock at the base of it, there for exercising the dogs.

Everything sits on a single storey, warmed by air source heating with underfloor heating throughout. The door opens into the open plan living area, with plenty of space for family or friends, a wood burner for cosy evenings in, and a Smart TV and DVD player. Supper is cooked in the well equipped kitchen and eaten around the dining table, and the dogs flop down by the burner once the plates are cleared.

The three spacious bedrooms are two doubles, the first en suite, and a twin. Outside, an open aspect area with a table, chairs and a fire pit forms part of a large, enclosed space, and the paddock at the base of the garden gives two dogs a proper run before breakfast. Bikes get secure storage and a bike wash.

Hills and woodland surround the cottage, so the dogs will find plenty of country to explore, while the Wye Valley, the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Forest of Dean, with its ancient oaks, are all within reach. Raglan, with its castle and award winning butcher, is close by, and Usk, 5 miles away, is the nearest of the market towns, with fishing on the River Usk and day permits from the town. Abergavenny, the gateway to the Brecon Beacons, is 12 miles off.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is New Oak Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, New Oak Cottage warmly welcomes dogs — up to two are accepted. The cottage has a separate fenced paddock where your dogs can run off-lead from the moment you arrive, plus an enclosed garden with seating and a fire pit for the humans to settle into once the dogs have had their fill of the paddock.

  • Are dogs allowed at New Oak Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so there's nothing to suggest they aren't welcome throughout the year. It's always worth confirming directly with the owner when you book, particularly if you're planning a visit during a busy period.

  • What should I know before visiting New Oak Cottage with my dog?

The cottage accepts up to two dogs and has a dedicated fenced paddock separate from the main garden, giving your dogs a proper space to stretch their legs safely. The surrounding area is excellent for walking — Raglan Castle is just 2.2 miles up the road, and there are footpaths through lanes and oak woodland towards Monmouth and the Wye that see very little traffic, making them ideal for dogs off the beaten track.
