Number Five has two living rooms, and only one of them has a television. The other, open to the kitchen, has the wood burner, and that tends to be where the evening and the dogs end up. It is a dog friendly terraced house for eight in Filey on the Yorkshire coast, spread over three floors with four bedrooms, and it takes two dogs.

The enclosed garden has a patio, and it is somewhere to let two dogs out first thing and last thing and to sit with a coffee in between. A stair gate is provided, useful in a house with this many stairs, and the first basket of logs for the burner is left ready. The welcome pack includes something for the dogs.

The open plan living area has the kitchen at one end and a dining table up two steps at the other, a sociable arrangement for a large party. The second living room, with the television, is the quieter place for films. On the first floor are an en suite double, a twin and the family bathroom, and on the top floor another en suite double and a second twin. Two families, or three generations, and two dogs settle into it easily.

Filey's beach and the Brigg, the long rocky point at the north end of the bay, are both 0.4 miles from the door. The sand runs south towards Hunmanby Gap, the Cleveland Way finishes on the clifftop above the Brigg, and the rock pools at the point are good ground for a dog at low water. Bempton Cliffs, with its seabirds, and Scarborough are within a short drive.
