Old Crofftau is a charmingly quirky converted farmhouse in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons, full of rustic original features and classic furniture, with mountains, rolling hills and wooded valleys all around. Two dogs join a party of up to eight, a dog friendly retreat for families and groups with the peaks of Cribyn, Fan Y Big and Pen y Fan waiting to be explored.

The living area is on the first floor beneath the eaves, a spacious room with soaring wooden beams, exposed stone walls and antique furnishings, made cosier still by a roaring wood burner with logs provided. That is where the dogs settle in the evening while a vintage 1960s Wurlitzer jukebox plays. The farmhouse style kitchen is adorned with bright tiles and traditional touches, and the grand dining table seats all eight. A short staircase leads to an elegant king-size room and a double, both en suite, and a winding oak staircase goes down to a cosy hallway with seating, a family shower room and two more king-size bedrooms.

Outside, the garden has a lawn dotted with flowering shrubs, comfortable garden furniture and a BBQ with fuel supplied, bathed in sunlight and looking out to the mountains. It is fenced, supervision of dogs in the garden is encouraged, and pets are to be kept under strict control because of the grazing livestock.

Miles of scenic trails start close by, to walk with the dogs, cycle or even ride. Cantref Adventure Farm is 1 mile away for a family outing, and the market town of Brecon, with its cathedral, museum and places to eat, is a short drive.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Old Crofftau dog friendly?

Yes, Old Crofftau welcomes up to two dogs. The farmhouse has an enclosed garden with lawn and flowering shrubs that catches the sun well, and walks onto the Brecon Beacons ridges start directly from the door — no car required.

  • Are dogs allowed at Old Crofftau year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the property directly to confirm availability for your dates. Given the year-round appeal of the Brecon Beacons walking and the farmhouse's setup, it appears to be a dog-friendly stay throughout the year.

  • What should I know before visiting Old Crofftau with my dog?

The house has an inverted layout — you enter on the first floor and the bedrooms are below — and dogs are asked to stay on the floor they arrived on, which the listing notes works particularly well for older dogs. The enclosed garden is a safe spot for dogs to relax, and the lanes above the house lead directly onto the long grassy ridges of Bryn Teg and Cefn Cyff, with miles of open walking towards Cribyn and Fan y Big.
