Old Stables stands within the grounds of a former rectory, deep in open countryside near Devauden, with fields all around and far reaching views across Monmouthshire. A couple and their dog have this romantic, dog friendly retreat to themselves, finished in a contemporary style with real touches of luxury, and the walks begin at the front door.

The ground floor is open plan and warmed by underfloor heating, with a well equipped kitchen of open shelving and beautiful tiles, a table for two, and a lounge area beside the wood burner, with logs laid on for the first fire. A dog in from the fields finds the warm floor and the fire and makes no further plans for the evening. Up the stairs, the king size room has beautiful bed linen, soft pillows and a skylight for stargazing, plus an en suite.

Outside is an enclosed courtyard, its table and chairs ready for coffee in the morning or a glass of wine later, and a further bench at the top of the stone stairs to take in the view. The dog makes a tour of the courtyard while the coffee brews, and a barbecue is available for supper outdoors. All around are fields with abundant wildlife, which any dog will find endlessly interesting.

The Ancient Kilgwrrwg is just a short walk away, and the surrounding countryside is a haven any dog will relish. For bigger days out, the stables are well placed for Wye Valley walks, the Forest of Dean and the Brecon Beacons. The remains of Tintern Abbey lie a short drive off, and the area is rich in heritage, with castles at Chepstow, Monmouth and Raglan. Fishing can be found onsite or nearby.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Old Stables - Wolvesnewton dog friendly?

Yes, Old Stables welcomes one dog alongside a couple. The property is thoughtfully set up for dogs — the enclosed courtyard means your dog can be let out first thing without the need for a lead, and the underfloor heating on the ground floor gives them a warm spot to settle after time outside.

  • Are dogs allowed at Old Stables - Wolvesnewton year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions on dogs, but it's always worth checking directly with the owners before you book to confirm availability and any conditions for your stay.

  • What should I know before visiting Old Stables - Wolvesnewton with my dog?

The property accommodates one dog, so it's best suited to couples bringing a single dog rather than a larger pack. The enclosed courtyard is a real practical bonus for early mornings, and the surrounding countryside — including a field path to the famously isolated Kilgwrrwg church and farmland reaching towards the Wye Valley — makes for good walking. Lanes in the area are quiet and rural, with some having grass growing up the middle, so it's an easy-paced kind of place rather than somewhere to cover big distances on roads.
