Four acres of private land with mature planting surround Poirot House, and the whole garden is fully fenced. The house stands in the foothills of Skiddaw at Underskiddaw with views across the Lakeland fells. This dog friendly house sleeps twelve and welcomes two dogs, with room outside for everybody at once.
The house is 1930s and has been renovated in period style: Crittall windows, Art Deco furniture, and a curved staircase that takes over the hall the moment the door opens. A double lounge and a snug each have a wood burner, an AGA warms the kitchen, where a dog will settle for the week, and the elegant dining room is made for celebrating a birthday or an anniversary. Six bedrooms sit upstairs, one with a balcony facing the fells, and the bath is the cast iron original.
The grounds are every bit a match for the house. Four fenced acres, a football goal, outdoor sofas and a wood burner on the terrace mean a large party and two dogs can spend a whole day without going through a gate. Skiddaw, Latrigg and Carlside can all be climbed from the front door without driving anywhere first.
Keswick and Derwentwater are 3 miles down the road for kayaks, restaurants and the mountain festival. Woodland behind the house leads on foot to Mirehouse and its gardens. Whinlatter, England's only mountain forest, is under 7 miles away, with mountain bike trails and a series of canicross races for anybody whose dog likes to run in company.
