Robsons

Keswick, Cumbria

A Lakeland stone terrace for six on a quiet street in Keswick, with a log burner, an enclosed walled suntrap of a garden and an outside hose for soaked dogs, two allowed.

Book now

Robsons is a Lakeland stone terrace on a quiet street 500 metres from the middle of Keswick. Three bedrooms sleep six, two dogs are allowed, and there is a hose out in the garden. That last detail counts for more here than it sounds, because most walks in this valley end in bog, and it is what makes dog friendly accommodation this close to the market square workable.

The hall keeps its original tiles and cornice work. A bay window fills the lounge with light and a log burner sits under it. The dining room opens through French doors onto the enclosed garden, a walled suntrap with a patio, seating and lockable bike storage, and the kitchen steps down beyond into a utility and a WC. Both dogs will have worked out the route between fire and door by teatime.

Late afternoon, gate shut, and one dog is stretched along the patio in the corner the sun has got round to. The other has come indoors and claimed the hearth before anybody has thought about lighting anything. Somebody is out by the back step rinsing four legs down with the hose and conducting an argument about dinner through the open kitchen door.

The centre of town is a few minutes on foot, so the car can sit still all week. South of it Derwentwater runs into the woods at Lodore, where the falls come down through the trees, and the road climbs above them to Surprise View, which takes in the whole of the water at once. Skiddaw stands over the town at more than 3,000 feet. If both dogs are coming, only one of them can be a large breed.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Robsons dog friendly?

Yes, Robsons welcomes up to two dogs. The house has an enclosed walled garden where dogs can settle on the patio, and there's an outside hose for washing muddy paws and legs after a walk — which, given that most routes in this valley end in bog, is a genuinely useful feature.

  • Are dogs allowed at Robsons year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the owner directly to confirm availability for your dates. The setup — log burner, enclosed garden, outside hose — works well across the seasons.

  • What should I know before visiting Robsons with my dog?

You can bring up to two dogs, but if you're bringing two, only one of them can be a large breed. The garden is enclosed, there's a hose outside for post-walk clean-ups, and the centre of Keswick is just a few minutes' walk away, so you won't need the car to reach trails, shops or the lake.
