Skimming Stones is a beautifully finished Victorian town house of three storeys, close to the heart of Keswick and within reach of its independent shops and eateries. With beds for eight and room for two dogs, this dog friendly house is ideal for a group break or two families together, and the waterside and hill walks around the town are close at hand.
A lobby takes the outerwear, then comes the main reception hall, and beyond it the lounge diner, with its bay window, high ceiling and period features. Light the wood burner, put on the Smart TV or a DVD, and the dogs will settle for the evening. The dining area has a table for games and holiday meals, and the airy kitchen is next door. Halfway up the stairs is the family bathroom with an elegant bath. The first floor has a twin and an en suite king size room, and right at the top, a double and a twin enjoy dramatic views, with a family shower room alongside.
Out the back, the enclosed, gravelled garden faces west and soaks up the sunshine in the afternoon and evening, so dinner can be eaten in the fresh Lake District air while the dogs potter about. The garage holds a washing machine and storage for bikes and outdoor gear, handy after a day on the hills.
Keswick's waterside and hill walks are on hand for the dogs, and a 10 mile walk right around Derwentwater makes a fine full day. Electric bikes can be hired, there are lake cruises and motorboats on the water, windsurfing, canoeing and paddleboarding for the energetic, and a cinema and a theatre in town for the evenings.
