Book now

Solway welcomes five dogs, and behind it lies an extensive enclosed rear garden with room for all of them. This five star, dog friendly period home sleeps ten on the outskirts of Chester, 1 mile from Chester Zoo and close to the Racecourse, and it keeps a private heated indoor swimming pool of its own.

Arrival is by two steps or a ramp, straight into a large open plan living space laid with a polished marble floor, its patio doors opening onto the garden. The lounge end has a Smart TV, comfy seating and an open fire, which is where the dogs gather after a long day out. Beyond the second lounge, with its table football, exercise bike and cross trainer, lies the pool, 10m by 5m, with its own door out to the garden.

The ground floor holds three bedrooms: a spacious en suite king, a large king with mirrored wardrobes and a widened door frame, and a good sized twin, with a family shower room and a wheelchair accessible wet room nearby. Up the wooden staircase, the master king has a large en suite with a double sink, and the fifth bedroom has a dressing area, an en suite and a Juliet balcony overlooking the rear garden, handy for keeping an eye on the dogs below.

Behind the house, the garden is furnished for eating out with a charcoal BBQ to hand, and electric gates enclose the driveway at the front. Historic Chester is within easy reach for the city walls, the Roman amphitheatre, the cathedral and the Tudor Rows, and the dogs can stroll beside the River Dee and through Grosvenor Park. North Wales, the Wirral and the villages of Cheshire make good days further out.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Solway - Chester dog friendly?

Yes, Solway welcomes up to five dogs. The house has two separate secure enclosures — an enclosed rear garden for the dogs to roam and electric gates at the front of the driveway so nothing wanders out onto the street while you're unloading the car.

  • Are dogs allowed at Solway - Chester year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and as a private holiday house rather than a beach or public space, there's no reason to expect them. It's always worth confirming directly with the host when you book.

  • What should I know before visiting Solway - Chester with my dog?

The house has ramp access at the front, so there's no step to negotiate with dogs or luggage. Inside, the main living space is one long open-plan room with a polished marble floor and patio doors opening onto the enclosed garden — practical for a group arriving with multiple dogs. Chester itself is well set up for dog walks, with the full 2-mile Roman and medieval wall circuit and a riverside path along the Dee both a short walk from the door.
