Tunbridge Wells, Sussex
In a shady hilltop copse in the High Weald, five canvas hideaways each with their own campfire site and views over fields and woodland, two dogs welcome on the lead.
Sunninglye is tucked among the rolling hills of the High Weald on the border of Kent and Sussex, where the Miles family have farmed for over 50 years. Its five canvas hideaways shelter in a shady hilltop copse, each with an extensive view across the surrounding fields and woodland, and up to two dogs can join this dog friendly getaway, on the lead while they explore.
Every hideaway has a well equipped kitchen, a wood burning stove and its own campfire site with an outdoor cooker that doubles as a barbecue, so supper can be cooked inside or out with the dog lying close by. The honesty shop has both necessities and local produce, and fresh bread from a local baker can be ordered in advance.
Chickens peck around the hideaways, sheep graze the adjoining fields and wild fallow deer are frequently seen, giving the dog no end of things to watch. Pigs, goats, cats, the farm dogs, a horse and Norman the donkey live here too. There are woods to walk through, campfire wood to collect, and a pond to explore by boat, kayak or coracle.
Tunbridge Wells is only a few miles away, and Penshurst, Sissinghurst, Scotney and Bodiam are all within a short drive. Bedgebury Pinetum, 10 miles off, has peaceful walks among the world's largest conifer collection, and the sands at Camber are 40 minutes by car. Wherever the dog spends the day, the copse is a peaceful place to come home to.

Book with Feather Down FarmsFrequently Asked Questions
Is Sunninglye Farm dog friendly?
Yes, Sunninglye Farm welcomes up to two dogs per stay. The farm has its own walk through the woods and down to the pond, which is long enough to give a dog a proper outing without ever leaving the property — and with a campfire outside and a wood stove inside, there's always somewhere for a wet dog to dry off.
Are dogs allowed at Sunninglye Farm year round?
The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, so it's worth checking directly with the farm or through Feather Down for availability at the time you're planning to visit. Given the woodland setting and the emphasis on campfires and stoves, it's a place that clearly suits a longer stay in any season.
What should I know before visiting Sunninglye Farm with my dog?
Dogs must be kept on the lead at all times on the farm, and that rule makes real sense here — the farm is home to sheep, pigs, goats, donkeys, horses, chickens and the farm's own dogs, so there's a lot to manage. There's no enclosed garden, which is standard across Feather Down sites, so you'll need to be comfortable keeping your dog on a lead or line throughout your stay. The farm walk is a good one, though, and the pond is open to guests, so there's plenty to keep a dog happily occupied.
