The Filey Lighthouse Apartment

Primrose Valley, North Yorkshire

A first floor apartment for two at Primrose Valley with its own private access, a private enclosed decked garden and the whole of Filey Bay through the window, two dogs welcome.

Book now

Two dogs go up thirteen stairs at speed and stop dead at the top, because the first thing this apartment shows anybody is the whole of Filey Bay through a window. The Filey Lighthouse Apartment occupies the upper floor of a house at Primrose Valley, dog friendly for two people with both dogs on the booking, and it keeps a private decked garden, enclosed, facing the sea across a field.

It is one room and a bedroom. Lounge, kitchen and dining space all share the view with two sofas turned towards it, and the double behind it has its own shower room. The staircase up is internal and private to the apartment, so nobody else needs to step over the dogs lying on it. The decking outside is fenced and looks over the field to the water and the cliffs closing the far end of the bay.

Two people, two dogs, and nothing at all to organise is the whole proposition. It is small, it is high up, and the view does most of the work. Anybody who has hunted for somewhere this size that still takes a pair of dogs will know how rarely those two things arrive together. There are tennis courts and games facilities on the site if a week of looking at the sea proves insufficient.

A coastal path drops from the property to the beach, and at low water the sand can be walked the whole way into Filey, which beats arriving by road. The town keeps its Edwardian streets and a run of odd small shops behind them. South across the bay the chalk rises into the cliffs at Bempton. Dogs are allowed on this sand outside the short central stretch.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is The Filey Lighthouse Apartment dog friendly?

Yes, The Filey Lighthouse Apartment welcomes two dogs, and they need to be included on the booking. The apartment is designed with dogs in mind — there's a private enclosed decked garden facing the sea, and the internal staircase is private to the apartment, so your dogs can sprawl on it without getting in anyone else's way.

  • Are dogs allowed at The Filey Lighthouse Apartment year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth contacting the host directly to confirm availability for your dates. What is worth knowing is that dogs are welcome on Filey's beach outside the short central stretch, giving you plenty of coastal walking whatever time of year you visit.

  • What should I know before visiting The Filey Lighthouse Apartment with my dog?

The apartment is on the upper floor, reached by thirteen internal stairs, so it's worth considering whether that suits your dogs before you book. Outside, the decked garden is enclosed and private, and a coastal path drops directly from the property to the beach — at low tide you can walk the sand all the way into Filey, which makes for a brilliant dog walk. The apartment sleeps two people and accommodates two dogs, so it's a good fit for a couple with a pair of dogs looking for somewhere that genuinely works for everyone.
