The Hemmel at Watersmeet is a spacious, stone built country cottage near the meeting of the North and South Tyne, with wonderful scenery, walking and wildlife all around and a popular pub half a mile away. Four guests can stay, and this dog friendly cottage has a welcome for one small dog.
You come in through the porch and boot room, where outdoor clothing and boots are left after a walk with the dog. The bright, airy kitchen and diner has high ceilings, plenty of natural light and French doors to the garden. A generous twin, with chairs for a quiet read and French doors to the front, shares the ground floor with a shower room off the hall.
Upstairs, the lounge has vaulted ceilings and plenty of character, with a wood burner, comfy seats and a Smart TV, and a glazed door opens onto a balcony with a bistro set for a drink with the views. Just off it, the sunroom is the place for bird watching and star gazing, and the king size bedroom has an en suite bathroom. Back down in the enclosed garden, a raised lawn and a sunny patio among mature plants and shrubs with garden furniture give the dog somewhere of its own and you a lovely place to eat outdoors.
Hexham, 3 miles away, has shops, pubs, restaurants, golf and river walks, with the Abbey, afternoon tea in its courtyard and a stroll round Sele Park. The Sill National Landscape Discovery Centre and the Roman forts and museums at Vindolanda and Housesteads are within 12 miles, and Hadrian's Wall and the villages of the North Pennines AONB make wonderful country for walking with the dog.
