The Velveteen Bath House is a design led luxury townhouse in Helmsley, one of the prettiest towns in North Yorkshire, and a dog friendly stay with every detail considered. Two dogs are welcome, and dog towels, bowls, poo bags, a hose and treats are ready for them when they arrive.
A generous entrance hall with parquet flooring and wood panelled walls leads to the lounge, where the dogs will settle by the open fire. Next door, the kitchen and diner is bright and contemporary, with a handmade solid wood kitchen, an island and banquette seating, and beyond it the Scandi style cinema room has surround sound and a deep window seat with views of the garden. Upstairs, both bedrooms are en suite: a king size master and a twin with wraparound panelling and a day bed in the window looking across to Helmsley Castle.
The fully enclosed rear garden is the star of the show, reached through large sliding doors from the kitchen and facing south. Lounge seating on the deck by the house catches the sun, while a clay paved path leads back to the spa decking, a Swedish outdoor sauna and the bath house with its Japanese style Ofuro hot tub. A paved patio holds the dining table, and the dogs are never far from wherever the company has gathered.
Helmsley's market square is a few hundred yards away, with tea rooms, delis, galleries, independent shops and fine restaurants. The Duncombe Park Estate lies on the edge of town, and the walk along the river to Rievaulx Abbey, 3 miles from town, is a lovely one to take with the dogs. York, Castle Howard and the Yorkshire coast are all within a 30 mile drive.
