1 / 17The Wee Housey
Durness, Highlands
A two bedroom stay for four at Durness with en-suites, glass balconies, a completely enclosed garden and the beaches of the far north west all around, two dogs welcome.
Durness is the last village before Cape Wrath, and The Wee Housey watches it from an elevated perch, the sea glinting towards Sango Bay. Wee is accurate only in footprint: four guests get two super king bedrooms, three bath and shower rooms between them, glass balconies off both rooms and a completely enclosed garden, with two dogs welcome at this dog friendly outpost of the far north west.
The lounge holds the wood burner and the view, with patio doors to a paved seating area, and the kitchen diner runs a Neff double oven and a second set of doors to the garden. Upstairs each bedroom takes its en suite and its balcony, and the garden wraps the cottage with seating at both ends, so the dogs choose their aspect by the time of day.
The beach arithmetic at Durness barely seems fair. Balnakeil's white mile starts 0.3 miles away, Sango Bay drops below the village, Ceannabeinne waits along the coast, and Smoo Cave splits the difference, a sea cave a dog can actually walk into. Nowhere else on the mainland puts this much sand this close to a door.
Balnakeil's craft village does coffee and chocolate, the golf course is as far north west as golf goes in Britain, and the Cape Wrath ferry and minibus leave from the Kyle for the full end of the world experience. The North Coast 500 passes the door, and dogs whose owners planned one night here tend to get two.

Is The Wee Housey dog friendly?
Yes, The Wee Housey welcomes up to two dogs. The cottage has a completely enclosed garden, which is a real bonus if you're travelling with dogs who like to roam freely outside.
Are dogs allowed at The Wee Housey year round?
The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's best to check directly with the property when booking to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the surrounding area — with beaches like Balnakeil and Sango Bay, plus Smoo Cave — offers brilliant dog walking whatever the season.
What should I know before visiting The Wee Housey with my dog?
The cottage takes a maximum of two dogs, so it's worth confirming this when you book if you're bringing a full pack. The enclosed garden is a great base, and you're spoiled for dog-friendly beaches nearby — Balnakeil's white sand mile is just 0.3 miles away, and Smoo Cave is one of those rare sea caves a dog can actually walk into.
