Book now

Wildfowl Cottage is a cosy converted barn in sprawling grounds on the Lincolnshire Fens, with a beautiful pond and wildlife all around. From the private patio you can watch wildfowl, chickens, geese and even wallabies, and this dog friendly barn sleeps five with two dogs welcome.

The barn's open plan living space has lots of comfy seating facing the TV, a well equipped kitchen for a hearty meal, and a farmhouse table where tomorrow gets planned. There is a handy downstairs shower room. Up the stairs, the family room has a double and a single bed with views over the surrounding countryside, and the twin looks out over the pond and gardens. The two dogs will settle in quickly once the day's wildlife watching is done.

The exclusive patio garden area is for guests, with seating and a BBQ for relaxing with good company and watching the wildlife. Through the gated garden lie the grounds and the wildlife pond, which are shared and teeming with unusual wildfowl and wallabies, a sight two dogs will find fascinating.

The Fens carry a wealth of local history, and the market towns of Boston and Spalding are both within 10 miles, with Sleaford a little further. Boat trips leave Boston for the Wash and its bird watching, the Fen rivers offer course fishing for bream, roach, pike and zander, and Lincoln's Norman castle makes a day out. Out on a walk with two dogs, keep an eye on the sky: Lincolnshire is home to the RAF, and if you are lucky the Red Arrows may be practising.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Wildfowl Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Wildfowl Cottage welcomes dogs — up to two are allowed. The exclusive patio garden is where dogs can be off lead, while the shared grounds beyond it, which include a wildlife pond and roaming wallabies, are walked on lead.

  • Are dogs allowed at Wildfowl Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, but we'd recommend checking directly with the owner to confirm availability and any conditions around your dates.

  • What should I know before visiting Wildfowl Cottage with my dog?

The honest answer is that the setting is unusual, and it's worth being clear-eyed about it before you book. The shared grounds contain a wildlife pond with wildfowl and wallabies moving freely around it, so a dog that struggles around birds or wildlife will find the walks challenging. A dog that can hold its nerve will get something genuinely rare — and beyond the grounds, the flat Fenland countryside around Donington offers long, straight drove roads and field-edge walks for miles.
