Froghall to Oakamoor Circular Walk

Staffordshire

Dog Friendly Rating: 7/10 A wooded Churnet Valley circular linking Froghall Wharf and Oakamoor with plenty of riverside fun for dogs.

Often called Staffordshire's little Switzerland, this 12.4 km circular in the Churnet Valley strings together Cotton Dell, Froghall Wharf and the woods of Hawksmoor and Dimmingsdale. It is very dog friendly with plenty of river access and shaded paths for hot days.

Expect a steady climb out of Oakamoor through Cotton Dell, a dip down to Froghall Wharf and a long undulating return through woodland above the river. Dogs can be off lead on most of the woodland sections, with a few larger gates that smaller dogs may need lifting over, and watch for occasional livestock on the upper farm tracks. The Oakamoor Picnic Site car park is free with toilets on site.
