Rother Valley Country Park Circular
South Yorkshire
Rother Valley Country Park is a 750 acre reclaimed-from-industry country park on Sheffield's eastern edge, and this dog friendly circular takes in the main leisure lake, the nature lake and the Chesterfield Canal corridor. The going is entirely flat and the paths are wide and well surfaced, which makes it a fine choice for mixed age groups, older dogs or muddy days when the hills aren't appealing. Waterfowl, swans and the occasional kingfisher liven up the lake sections.
Dogs are welcome throughout on a lead or under close control, and there are bins throughout. The water sports lake is busy with cable skiers, paddle boarders and windsurfers, so dogs that react to sudden splashes or noise may prefer the quieter nature lake loop. There are no livestock concerns, and the paved paths are kind to paws. Facilities include a main cafe at Bedgreave Mill, the Stables Cafe, toilets, a play area and a large pay and display car park by the entrance. The park is open dawn to dusk all year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, dogs are welcome throughout Rother Valley Country Park, which earns a solid 8 out of 10 on our dog-friendly rating. The 750-acre park offers flat, well-surfaced paths, plenty of waste bins, and no livestock to worry about — all of which make it a relaxed and enjoyable outing for dogs and their owners.
Dogs are welcome on a lead or under close control throughout the park, so off-lead walking is possible where you can maintain that close control. Given the park's busy water sports lake — with cable skiers, paddle boarders and windsurfers — it's worth keeping a careful eye on dogs that might react to sudden splashes or noise, and the quieter nature lake loop may suit them better.
The route is entirely flat with wide, well-surfaced paths, making it a great option for older dogs, mixed-age groups, or days when you'd rather skip the muddy hills. The park is open dawn to dusk year-round, and facilities are good — there are two cafes (Bedgreave Mill and The Stables), toilets, and pay and display parking at the main entrance, with additional parking near the Nature Lake.
