Trent Country Park and Camlet Moat Circular
London
Trent Country Park covers 413 acres on the edge of Enfield, its open grassland and woodland giving dogs plenty of room to run, and was carved out of Enfield Chase, the royal hunting forest that was divided up in 1777. Dr Richard Jebb, physician to George III, laid out a deer park and lake here, the Bevan family planted the lime tree avenue in the 1840s, and Sir Philip Sassoon brought in the obelisk and other monuments in the 1930s. This circuit of around 5.5km from the main car park on Cockfosters Road follows the lime avenue, drops past the chain of lakes below the house, and climbs into the woodland to Camlet Moat, a scheduled ancient monument, before returning across the open grassland. The ground is gently rolling, with around 60 metres of climbing on firm paths, grass and woodland tracks that get muddy in places after rain.
This is a dog friendly walk with lots of room. Enfield Council allows dogs throughout the park except in the children's play areas, and there is no grazing livestock, so a dog with good recall can have plenty of off-lead time on the grass and in the woods. The park is shared with cyclists and with horses from the equestrian centre, so keep your dog close on the main drives and give riders room. There is shade in the woods around Camlet Moat. Parking in the council car parks is free, and the cafe and toilets are beside the main car park.
