Wilverley Inclosure Walk

Wilverley Inclosure is a fenced woodland area in the New Forest near Brockenhurst, and this 4.8 km circuit follows wide gravel tracks through mixed stands of mature conifers and broadleaf trees. The inclosure fencing means the free-roaming New Forest ponies, cattle and donkeys that characterise other forest walks are absent here, creating a simpler, less complicated environment for dog walking. The tracks are broad and well-maintained with excellent views into the woodland understorey where ferns, heather and young trees colonise the forest floor. Morning light creates a cathedral-like atmosphere through the tallest conifers, and the 109 metres of gentle climbing adds just enough undulation to keep the walk interesting without demanding effort.

This dog friendly walk is one of the best in the New Forest for off-lead freedom. High off-lead potential combines with the absence of livestock within the inclosure to create genuinely relaxed walking where dogs can gallop along the wide gravel tracks without complication. The gravel surface is kind to sensitive paws and easy on older joints, while draining well enough to stay firm after rain. Forest streams within the inclosure provide drinking water, and the woodland scent — pine resin, damp fern, earthy undergrowth — is rich and layered. The walk stays consistently quiet compared to busier New Forest routes, even during summer weekends. A strong choice for dogs who need freedom and owners who want a stress-free outing in beautiful woodland.
