Skipness Beach

Argyll and Bute

Dog Friendly Rating:8/10A sandy Kintyre beach beside a medieval castle, a 13th-century chapel and the celebrated Skipness Seafood Cabin, with views to Arran and year-round unrestricted dog access.

Skipness Beach is a sandy beach on the east coast of Kintyre near the village of Skipness, dominated by the well-preserved ruins of Skipness Castle and a 13th-century chapel. The beach faces Arran across Kilbrannan Sound and the views of Arran's mountains are excellent. The Seafood Cabin at Skipness is a celebrated seasonal seafood hut directly beside the castle, one of the best places to eat fresh prawns, langoustines and local seafood in Argyll.

No dog restrictions. Year-round dog access. The combination of castle, beach, chapel and outstanding seafood makes Skipness one of the most rewarding beach visits on the Kintyre coast. The Seafood Cabin is dog friendly outside.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Skipness Beach dog friendly?

Skipness Beach is very dog friendly, with no restrictions in place — dogs are free to roam the beach, explore the castle ruins and visit the chapel grounds. The Skipness Seafood Cabin, the celebrated seasonal seafood hut beside the castle, is also dog friendly outside, so your four-legged companion can join you while you enjoy some of Argyll's finest fresh prawns and langoustines.

  • Are dogs allowed at Skipness Beach year round?

Yes, dogs are welcome at Skipness Beach throughout the year with no seasonal restrictions. It's a great spot to visit whatever the time of year, though do bear in mind that the Skipness Seafood Cabin operates seasonally, so it won't always be open.

  • What should I know before visiting Skipness Beach with my dog?

Parking is available at Skipness Castle car park, which puts you right beside the beach, castle ruins and chapel — so it's easy to explore everything in one visit. There are no formal facilities beyond the Seafood Cabin, which is seasonal, so it's worth coming prepared with water and any supplies your dog might need for the trip.
