The Black Bull Inn, Moffat

Moffat, Dumfries and Galloway

Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.

A 1568 inn on Church Gate in Moffat, with dog friendly rooms in the garden annexe and main building, a pooch pack and a Doggy Dinners menu.

Built in 1568, The Black Bull Inn stands on Church Gate in the heart of Moffat, an independently owned inn with links to Robert Burns, who visited in his heyday. Dogs are part of its story as a dog friendly inn: in a 2021 TeamDogs, Daily Mirror and Daily Record vote on dog friendly businesses, it came 14th in the whole of the UK.

Dogs stay in designated rooms in the main building or in the garden annexe, whose rooms are at pavement level for an easy step outside. Up to two medium sized dogs may stay at any one time, and each arrives to a pooch pack in the room with treats, food, a water bowl and a lovely soft bed. Dogs mustn't be left unattended in your room unless they're crated. Mention your dog when you book, and read the dog friendly policy before you arrive.

Dogs are welcome in the olde worlde bar to drink, dine and relax with you, and in the garden areas, and they may join you for breakfast, but the bistro is a dog free area. Your dog can laze at your feet over lunch or dinner and has a Doggy Dinners menu of its own. At least three cask ales from local breweries are always on, including Lowland Brewing of Lockerbie and the Five Kingdoms Brewery on the Isle of Whithorn. The bar and restaurant are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The 15 rooms and suites are individually styled with Molton Brown toiletries, and the two suites have free standing baths. In 2020 a national newspaper named it one of Scotland's ten best pubs. Wildpack lists Hartfell Spa from the Annan Water Hall, Moffat 3.3 miles from the inn, and the inn has its own ideas for exploring Moffat with your dog.
