In 1591 the Elvetham estate staged the Elvetham Entertainment for Queen Elizabeth I, digging out and flooding a lake as a stage to entertain her court, and the Gloriana Bar takes its inspiration from that event. Today The Elvetham is a country house hotel of 91 bedrooms in the Hampshire countryside, and a dog friendly hotel where guests and their dogs are free to roam 35 acres of manicured gardens.
The dog friendly rooms are in the Stables House and the private Gardeners Cottage, with room for two dogs at most. Dogs up to 20kg are welcome in them, and for a larger dog the reception team asks you to call ahead of booking. Each dog receives its own bed, bowl, chew toy and a tasty treat on arrival. Dogs should be fully house-trained and at least six months old, and they are not left unattended in the bedrooms; outside your room, keep your dog on its lead.
Breakfast with your dog is served on the outside terrace, weather permitting, or in the Gloriana Bar, so let the team know when you arrive and it will be arranged. Dogs can go into the Main House, though not the upper floors or the Sylvanus Restaurant. The Gloriana Bar menus run from a light snack to a hearty lunch, the Sylvanus Restaurant serves dinner against the backdrop of the Square Gardens, and afternoon tea brings freshly prepared cakes, pastries and sandwiches.
Rooms in the Main House are each unique in design, as befits the age of the property, and spa treatments are available during your stay. With your dog, there are the manicured gardens to explore and a wide variety of local walks beyond them.
