1 / 8The Hide Hotel
Chesterfield, Derbyshire
Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.
The Hide, once the Highwayman Inn, sits on moorland at the edge of the Chatsworth Estate, with a dog wash and open countryside beyond its back door.
Travellers crossing the moors between Baslow and Chesterfield have stopped here for around two hundred years, since the building went up along the new turnpike road in the early 1800s. Formerly the Highwayman Inn, The Hide now belongs to the Chatsworth Estate and sits in moorland at its edge, with artwork and objects from Chatsworth stores, reclaimed school chairs and British wool curtains by a local maker inside. The team describe it as a dog friendly hotel in the Peak District.
Dogs stay in the Accessible, Bunk and Quad rooms, two well behaved dogs at most per room. After a muddy day there's a dog wash area, with bike and boot wash stations and boot rooms for your own gear. As to a dog staying unattended in your room when you're out, the hotel doesn't state its rule, so ask before you go anywhere without yours.
The bar takes well behaved dogs, as do designated areas of The Hide Grill & Pizzeria, where the cooking is done over flame: smoky feasts from the grill, wood-fired pizzas from stone ovens, steaks and burgers with family style sides, using locally sourced ingredients from the Chatsworth Estate and trusted suppliers. Ask and the kitchen will pack a ploughman's lunch tiffin box for a day out, with tea and cake ready when you get back.
Step through the back door and you're out in the countryside with your dog, and the walking booklet in your room maps several walks that set out from The Hide. Wildpack lists Linacre Reservoirs Loop 2 miles away and Chatsworth Park Perimeter Walk 3.5 miles away.
