1 / 8The Hunters Rest Inn
Clutton, Bath and North East Somerset
Yes. Dogs can stay overnight.
A hunting lodge of around 1750 high on Clutton Hill, now an inn with five rooms, where dogs are welcome in the pub and garden.
The Hunters Rest Inn was built around 1750 as a hunting lodge for The Earl of Warwick, high on Clutton Hill with commanding views over the Cam Valley to the Mendip Hills. When the estate was sold in 1892 the lodge became a smallholding and tavern serving the growing coal mining community, and today, out in the Wansdyke countryside, this dog friendly inn welcomes dogs inside the pub and out in the garden.
Five luxury en-suite rooms fill the converted first floor, each individually designed and decorated, with antique furniture and four poster suites. Every one has magnificent views, and three have balconies of their own. Carpets are cleaned after a dog's stay so that later guests with allergies aren't troubled. Which rooms suit dogs, and how many can come, the inn doesn't state, so check as you book.
Your dog can settle beside you inside the pub, and the garden is open to dogs too. Whether dogs can stay by you at the table during meals the inn doesn't say, so ask before you reserve. This privately owned free house is known for homemade food and a well stocked cellar, with a wide range of real ales and 14 wines by the glass, and food is served every day.
Bath, Bristol and Wells are all within easy reach, and the views run across the Chew Valley to the Mendip Hills. For a walk with the dog, Pensford Viaduct River Chew Loop, one of Wildpack's walks, lies 2.3 miles off.
