The Loans Inn

Troon, South Ayrshire

Yes. Dogs can stay in selected rooms, up to 2 dogs per room.

A former coaching inn in the village of Loans near Troon, with dedicated dog rooms, a treat waiting on arrival and walking routes from the door.

Four times named Small Hotel of the Year at the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards, The Loans Inn is a boutique hotel, country pub and restaurant in the village of Loans, minutes from Troon. It runs as a dog friendly hotel with everything mapped out for you, from the doggy bins and towel point to the two doggy doors, one by reception at the rear and one on the main street.

Dogs stay in dedicated dog friendly rooms, two at most per room. Call the team to book and they'll allocate a suitable room, and tell them ahead of time that a dog is joining you. A treat is waiting in the room on arrival, since travelling is hungry work, and doggy towels for mucky paws are at the doggy station. Bring your dog's own bed, lead, food and toys. The hotel prefers your dog to stay with you rather than be left unattended in the room, but if you are dining without your dog or using the leisure facilities at The Gailes Hotel, display the doggy door hanger and tell reception. The room isn't serviced while a dog is left in it.

Eating together happens in the dedicated doggy areas, subject to availability, though not in the main restaurant or on the upstairs outdoor terrace. In the warmer months you and your dog can dine al fresco in the sunken beer garden. Breakfast and brunch run through to lunch, dinner and afternoon tea, with quality Scottish produce and the signature Loans Steak Pie.

Various routes leave from the door, and the Fullarton Woods and Fairy Trail is a 25 minute walk via the Smugglers' Trail, with a park beside the inn. Wildpack's map puts Barassie Beach, its closest dog friendly beach, 1.4 miles from the inn.

Facts checked October 2026 from the hotel's own website. Details can change, so please confirm anything important, especially the dog rules, with the hotel before you book.
