The street this cottage stands on is called one of the finest medieval streets in Britain, and Anchor Light Cottage's side door opens off it straight into the lounge. Three dogs come with it, generous for a town house of any age, and the garden behind is fully enclosed. Dog friendly, sleeping six in the old Abbey quarter of Faversham, three bedrooms, three bathrooms.

The ground floor goes back a long way. Lounge with the wood burner, a dining room seating six, a kitchen and diner beyond with a Rayburn keeping it warm and two sets of French doors to the garden, and off to one side a small library with the open fire in it. The owners point at the floor in front of the Rayburn as the dog's place. A shower room finishes that floor; the king and two doubles sit above, one with its own bathroom.

Faversham keeps a market three days a week, a brewery among the oldest in England, and the national fruit collection just outside the town, none of it needing the car moved. What three dogs get is a town small enough to cross on foot in ten minutes, streets that have stood since the abbey did, and a fenced garden to come home to.

The creek runs from the town down to the estuary with the old barges tied along it, and Oare Marshes lie at the far end, grazing marsh, dyke and shore where a dog on a lead watches the whole estuary open out. Inland is orchard and hop garden, which is what Kent is meant to look like. The beach is a car journey and the marsh the better morning anyway.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Anchor Light Cottage dog friendly?

Yes, Anchor Light Cottage welcomes up to three dogs, which is generous for a town house of this size. The cottage has a fully enclosed garden, so your dogs have somewhere safe to come home to after exploring Faversham's medieval streets.

  • Are dogs allowed at Anchor Light Cottage year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions, and with a wood burner in the lounge and an open fire in the library, it's well set up for a cosy stay in the colder months too. If you have any concerns about a specific time of year, it's worth checking directly with the owners before booking.

  • What should I know before visiting Anchor Light Cottage with my dog?

The owners designate the floor in front of the Rayburn as the dog's spot, so it's worth keeping that in mind when you settle in. Faversham is compact enough to explore on foot with your dogs, and nearby Oare Marshes offer a good morning out — though dogs will need to be kept on a lead there as it's grazing marsh and estuary habitat. The beach is a car journey away, and the owners suggest the marshes are the better option for a morning walk.
