Three well behaved dogs are welcome at Crofthead Steading, a stylish, luxurious dog friendly farmhouse looking over the Moffat Water Valley, with the Southern Upland Way among the walks from the door. It sleeps eight across four bedrooms, every one of them en suite, and out the back a fully enclosed garden gives the dogs room of their own.

From the hall, two steps lead up to the spacious open plan lounge and diner, where a floor to ceiling picture window looks out on the water wheel, a clue to the building's 18th century origins, and the wood burner comes with unlimited logs for the dogs to stretch out beside. Stairs from the lounge climb to a studio with a vaulted ceiling and exposed beams, and the bespoke kitchen has its own dining and seating area.

Three bedrooms open off the hallway: a super king zip and link and a king, both with en suite bathrooms, and a pretty double with an en suite shower. Up a short flight of stairs the master super king has a seating area, glen and countryside views, a dressing room and an en suite with a freestanding bath, a separate shower and a sauna. Outside, the gas BBQ and seating area make the most of a recognised International Dark Sky location, the dogs settled beside you as the stars come out.

Hares hop through the courtyard, red kites are a common sight, and the Crofthead Burn tumbles through the adjacent woodland in a series of cascades to the Moffat Water.
