A hammock hangs in the garden, which says most of what the owners expect a week here to look like. Dexters Den sleeps six on a quiet modern development at Bridlington, dog friendly and taking two, with a generous enclosed garden that the kitchen slides open onto. The sea is minutes away by car and the garden is where the day keeps ending up.

The kitchen and dining room make one bright space built for a group, a utility off it for the washing machine and the sand. The lounge is separate and quieter, sofas and a Smart TV, which counts for something when six people and two dogs share a house. Three bedrooms sit upstairs, two of them kings, the main one with a shower room of its own. A garage at the side takes bikes and whatever comes back off the water.

The slider is open and the garden has got everybody. One dog lies under the hammock on principle and the other has gone to sleep against the warm bricks. Somebody is doing something with the last of the fish off the harbour. Sand from the north beach has reached the utility room floor and stopped there, which is the entire reason for having one.

Bridlington keeps two long beaches of golden sand either side of a working harbour, with boats running out of it up the coast to the lighthouse. Sewerby Hall stands on the cliff north of town with gardens and a clifftop walk to reach it on foot. Danes Dyke drops through woodland to a rocky shore. Dogs have the run of most of this coast away from the central promenade.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Dexters Den dog friendly?

Yes, Dexters Den welcomes up to two dogs. The house has a generous enclosed garden that opens directly from the kitchen, giving dogs plenty of space to roam safely, and a utility room off the kitchen that's well set up for dealing with muddy paws and sandy coats after a day out.

  • Are dogs allowed at Dexters Den year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so it's worth checking directly with the owners when you book. What we do know is that the house is set up with dogs genuinely in mind, from the enclosed garden to the practical utility room, so they're clearly part of the picture here.

  • What should I know before visiting Dexters Den with my dog?

The house takes a maximum of two dogs, so if you're travelling with more it's worth checking with the owners first. The surrounding area is well suited to dogs too — Bridlington's beaches are accessible to dogs away from the central promenade, and nearby spots like Danes Dyke and the clifftop walk to Sewerby Hall make for great days out.
