A hammock hangs in the garden, and after a day on the Yorkshire coast it is hard to think of a better place to end up. Dexters Den is a stylish, contemporary house for six in a quiet development at Bridlington, dog friendly and taking two, with a generous enclosed garden that the kitchen slides open onto. The beach is an easy trip, and the garden is where the day keeps ending up.

The kitchen and dining area make one bright space built for the whole family, with a utility off it for the washing machine and the sand. The lounge is separate and cosy, where the dogs curl up while somebody finds a film for the Smart TV. Three individually designed bedrooms sit upstairs, two of them kings and the main bedroom en suite, while the garage takes bikes and water sports kit.

The slider is open and the garden has got everybody. One dog lies under the hammock on principle and the other has gone to sleep beside the table. Somebody is cooking something good from Europe's lobster capital, somebody else has claimed the lounge set with a coffee, and the evening is in no rush to end.

Bridlington has two award winning beaches of golden sand either side of its historic harbour, and the Yorkshire Belle sets off from there up the coast to the lighthouse at Flamborough Head.
