Felt Barn

Grindon, Staffordshire

A five bedroom barn for ten at Grindon in the Staffordshire Moorlands, with an enclosed garden at the front looking at the hills and two dogs welcome.

Book now

The enclosed garden here is at the front of the building rather than hidden behind it, which is the wrong way round and much the better way round, because it faces the hills. Felt Barn takes ten at Grindon in the Staffordshire Moorlands, dog friendly, with a patio out on that garden and five bedrooms behind it. Two dogs come with it. A dog on a front patio sees everything that happens all day, which is a good deal of what any of them wants from a week away.

Five bedrooms to four bathrooms is an unusually generous ratio, and it changes how ten people get through a morning. There is a wood burner for the other end of the day. Two dogs at this size is a modest allowance, worth knowing early: this is a house for one large family that has a pair, rather than three parties arriving with an animal each.

It suits a gathering that wants the moorlands and not the honeypots. Grindon is a small village on a ridge with a spire visible a long way off, and the country about it is walled pasture giving out into limestone without much warning. Two dogs get a great deal of quiet ground and very few gates.

Below the village the Manifold runs in a deep wooded valley, and in summer it does something no other river here does: it drops into its own bed and travels the last few miles underground, leaving dry stones to walk on. Thor's Cave opens in the crag above it, a mouth wide enough to see from the valley floor and a stiff climb to stand in. Two dogs get the old railway track along the bottom, level the whole way.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Felt Barn dog friendly?

Yes, Felt Barn welcomes dogs. The property has an enclosed front garden with a patio looking out over the hills, and the surrounding Staffordshire Moorlands offer plenty of quiet walking country, including the level old railway track along the Manifold Valley.

  • Are dogs allowed at Felt Barn year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so there's nothing to suggest they aren't welcome throughout the year. If you want to confirm arrangements for a specific time of year, it's always worth checking directly with the property when you book.

  • What should I know before visiting Felt Barn with my dog?

Felt Barn allows up to two dogs, so it's best suited to a single group with one pair rather than multiple parties each bringing their own. It's worth knowing this upfront if you're planning a larger gathering, as the two-dog limit is firm and worth factoring into your group's plans.
