Two shower rooms in a cottage for five, and one of them is downstairs in the utility beside the back door. Jacky Garth stands in Threlkeld under Blencathra, a dog friendly cottage where two dogs are welcome, and that arrangement is most of the point: whatever the fell puts on two dogs comes back off them before it reaches a carpet.

The hall has hooks and racks and was built for what a mountain sends back. Past it a lounge with exposed beams and a wood burner, and a conservatory alongside looking out on the garden with the fells behind, which is where a dog will lie in the morning and follow the sun around the floor. Underfloor heating runs through the ground floor and does the rest of the drying.

The village puts a great deal within reach on foot. Blencathra rises straight out of the back of Threlkeld, and the old railway line runs level into Keswick, 3 flat traffic free miles for two dogs and anybody who has had enough of climbing for one day. The garden is generous, lawned and enclosed with a patio and a BBQ on it, and two dogs can be left to it for as long as dinner takes.

Blencathra is the village's own mountain and one of the great ones, Sharp Edge on it for anybody who wants that and gentler lines for anybody who does not. Keswick and Derwentwater lie west along the old line. Ullswater is over the road to the east, Thirlmere's shore path runs south beneath Helvellyn, and a dog can be walked from the door in three directions without a car being started.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Jacky Garth dog friendly?

Yes, Jacky Garth is fully set up for dogs — two are welcome, and the cottage is genuinely designed with them in mind. There's a hall with hooks and racks for drying off after the fells, a downstairs shower room off the utility right by the back door, and an enclosed garden where dogs can be left safely while you get dinner on.

  • Are dogs allowed at Jacky Garth year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and the cottage is clearly equipped for muddy, wet visits in any weather — underfloor heating runs through the ground floor, and the utility and downstairs shower room are right there for post-walk clean-ups. For confirmation of availability at specific times of year, it's worth checking directly with the property.

  • What should I know before visiting Jacky Garth with my dog?

Up to two dogs are welcome, so it's worth confirming if you're hoping to bring more. The cottage is well set up practically — there's a dedicated space to sort wet and muddy dogs before they reach the carpets, with a downstairs shower room off the utility beside the back door and underfloor heating throughout the ground floor to help everything dry out. The garden is lawned and enclosed, which means dogs can have a run around unsupervised, and walks start directly from the door in multiple directions without needing to get in the car.
