Jacky Garth is a traditional Lakeland cottage full of character in the friendly village of Threlkeld, at the base of Blencathra, with views over St John's in the Vale. It sleeps five, two dogs are welcome, and the spacious enclosed garden with its lawn gives this dog friendly cottage plenty of room outside to match the roaring wood burner within.
Hooks and racks line the entrance hall for muddy boots and outdoor gear, exactly what is wanted when two dogs come in off Blencathra. Beyond the kitchen, the welcoming lounge has exposed beams, plush furnishings and the wood burner, where both dogs collapse in a heap while underfloor heating keeps the ground floor snug. Next door a sunlit conservatory looks over the garden to the distant fells, the place for a morning coffee or the golden glow of sunset.
Upstairs there is a king size room with a single beyond it, and across the landing a double. Outside, the spacious lawn invites picnics and outdoor games, the patio has furniture and a BBQ for eating beneath the open sky, and there is bike storage for the cyclists. Blencathra's summit is 3 miles away, with Skiddaw and Catbells for the bigger days, and the old railway path takes walkers, cyclists and dogs to Keswick, 5 miles off, for its shops, restaurants, cinema and theatre. Derwentwater and Ullswater are both lovely for a scenic stroll or a cruise, Whinlatter Forest has its mountain bike trails, and Grasmere, Ambleside and Windermere are an easy drive.
