Four cottages share the gardens at Little Crugwallins outside St Austell, and Summer Breeze is one of the two that stand semi-detached, sleeping four in two bedrooms with a garden of its own. It takes one dog, free of charge, with a bag of doggy extras put out for it, which makes it dog friendly in the plainest sense: somebody has thought about the ground.

That garden of its own is lawned and enclosed, and it is the part that is private to Summer Breeze. Around it are the shared grounds, half an acre of landscaped garden with a summerhouse, a barbecue and a play area, and a separate acre of field kept for dogs, which all four cottages use. There are six steps within the shared grounds, and outside there is a dog shower that runs hot as well as cold.

The day tends to start in that field. The dog gets a proper run on grass before breakfast, comes back to its own lawn, and the people eat with the door open. Inside is all on one level: an open living and dining room with the kitchen at one end, a king size bedroom, a second with two singles, and a bathroom between them.

Charlestown is close, a Georgian harbour where tall ships still tie up, and Porthpean has a small sandy beach looking back across St Austell Bay. For a day away from the coast, Truro has its cathedral and a tangle of narrow streets. Most of the county is within reach from here, and one dog can see a good deal of it in a week.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Little Crugwallins - Summer Breeze dog friendly?

Yes, Summer Breeze welcomes one dog, and there's no charge for bringing them. Whoever runs the place has clearly thought it through: there's a doggy extras bag waiting on arrival, a hot-and-cold dog shower outside, and a whole acre of dedicated dog field shared between the four cottages on site.

  • Are dogs allowed at Little Crugwallins - Summer Breeze year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, so there's nothing to suggest they're limited to certain times of year. If it matters to your trip, it's worth checking directly with the owners to confirm availability for your dates.

  • What should I know before visiting Little Crugwallins - Summer Breeze with my dog?

The cottage takes one dog only, so it's not suited to multi-dog households. Summer Breeze has its own enclosed lawned garden, and beyond that there's a shared acre of field where dogs can have a proper run — though note there are six steps within the shared grounds, which is worth bearing in mind if your dog has mobility issues. The whole of the cottage interior is on one level, which makes life easy day to day.
