Dog bowls, towels, treats, a sleeping mat, waste bags and a list of the best dog walks nearby are waiting at Llys Deulyn. It is a terraced dog friendly cottage for four in the hillside village of Trefriw, on the edge of Eryri, and the owners have thought as hard about the two dogs as about the people.

Behind the cottage is a small enclosed garden, with seats and a table, and beyond it the River Crafnant runs past on its way down to the village. It is lovely to hear from the garden, and worth keeping in mind with a dog that likes water. The stairs inside are steep and narrow, which is worth knowing too for a dog that is small, elderly or unsure on steps.

Downstairs the living and dining rooms are separate but open to each other, so the space feels larger than the front of the cottage suggests, and a wood burner is set ready with the first logs supplied. On the first floor a double room has its own shower, the second bedroom has zip and link singles, and the main bathroom has a bath. The evenings here are simple: a walk down into the village, back up the hill, the burner lit, and the dogs asleep on their mat within earshot of the river.

Llyn Crafnant is a short drive up the lane, a lake with a path all the way round it and a tearoom on the shore. The Gwydyr Forest is on the doorstep for trails with the dogs, Llanrwst and its old stone bridge are just down the valley, and Betws-y-Coed and the high ground of Ogwen and Tryfan are close.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Llys Deulyn dog friendly?

Llys Deulyn is genuinely dog friendly — the owners have put real thought into making it work for dogs as well as people. Arriving guests will find dog bowls, towels, treats, a sleeping mat and waste bags waiting, along with a curated list of the best nearby walks.

  • Are dogs allowed at Llys Deulyn year round?

The listing doesn't specify seasonal restrictions, so it's worth contacting the owners directly to confirm availability for your dates. What we can say is that the cottage is set up with dogs firmly in mind, so it's not a reluctant arrangement.

  • What should I know before visiting Llys Deulyn with my dog?

Two dogs are welcome, and the small enclosed garden at the back of the cottage is a handy bonus — though it's worth knowing that the River Crafnant runs just beyond it, so water-loving dogs will need an eye kept on them. The internal stairs are steep and narrow, which is worth bearing in mind if your dog is small, elderly or uncertain on steps.
