Carlingwark Loch fills the view from the balcony at Loch Carlingwark Lodge 1, a luxurious reverse level house within a short stroll of the heart of Castle Douglas. Graded five star, this dog friendly lodge sleeps four, and its one dog has two enclosed spaces outside: a fully enclosed rear patio with a private hot tub, and an enclosed front garden with a table, chairs and a BBQ.

Downstairs are the two bedrooms: a super king zip and link with French doors out to the hot tub patio, and a pretty twin zip and link, either of which can be switched on request when you book. A stylish bathroom completes the ground floor. The one rule for the dog is that bedrooms are off limits. Upstairs, the open plan living space, kitchen and dining area has full length bi folding doors onto the balcony and its magnificent views over the loch.

Evenings come in stages: the private hot tub on the patio with the dog close by, then dinner on the large balcony with the loch and beyond in view, and later the stars, for this area is one of only four Dark Sky Parks in the western world.
