Loch Carlingwark Lodge 1

Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway

A five star lodge for four at Castle Douglas with a private hot tub on a fully enclosed patio and a small enclosed front garden, one dog welcome.

The hot tub stands on a fully enclosed rear patio, and that is a better arrangement than it first sounds: the dog can be outside with you the whole time you are in it, on ground it has no way of leaving. Loch Carlingwark Lodge 1 is a five star dog friendly lodge for four at Castle Douglas, one dog on the booking, with a small enclosed garden at the front as well.

It runs upside down. Two super king zip and link bedrooms and the bathrooms take the ground floor, one of them opening through French doors directly onto that patio, and the open plan living space sits above with a balcony off it. The front garden is small and enclosed and holds a table, chairs, a bike store and a BBQ. For a larger party the lodge next door can be booked at the same time, the two being adjoining properties with gates between their patios, though the dog allowance stays at one either way.

One dog is the limit here, and it suits a particular sort of booking: a couple, or four adults, travelling with a single well mannered animal and no great intention of doing anything strenuous. The Dee and the loch are both minutes away on foot. The evening runs hot tub, then dinner, then the stars, and Galloway takes its stars extremely seriously.

The region holds one of the largest dark sky parks in Europe, and the Milky Way is visible from it without equipment at all. Loch Ken lies north with the Galloway Activity Centre on its bank. The dog gets the forest tracks, which run for as far as anybody has wanted to walk.
