Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway

The first floor balcony is where this one makes its case. It opens off the living space through full length bi-folding doors and looks straight out over Carlingwark Loch, and it is what separates Lodge 2 from the lodge it adjoins. Both are five star dog friendly lodges for four at Castle Douglas. One dog only comes on this booking, and it gets two pieces of enclosed ground: a small garden at the front, a patio behind.

The house runs in reverse. Two super king zip and link bedrooms and the bathrooms sit below, with the open plan living space above them where the view is worth having. One bedroom opens through French doors onto the enclosed rear patio, which holds a private hot tub. The front garden is small, enclosed and fitted out with a table, chairs and a bike store. A dog therefore gets two separate pieces of enclosed ground and will make use of both.

Threave's estate walk starts 1.1 miles from the door, near enough that it stops being an outing and becomes the default. The circuit takes in the Dee, the parkland and the castle standing on its island, and it is ground a dog can be walked over daily without either party losing interest in it. Castle Douglas calls itself Scotland's Food Town and has a genuinely serious row of shops behind the claim.

The loch lies at the end of the street with birdlife on it the year round. Galloway Forest Park spreads north and west, big enough to carry the Red Kite Trail through it, and the Solway coast runs south into the rocky bays around Rockcliffe and Kippford. One dog, and a great deal of Galloway to spend it on.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Loch Carlingwark Lodge 2 dog friendly?

Yes, Loch Carlingwark Lodge 2 is a five star dog-friendly lodge near Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway. One dog is welcome per booking, and they'll have two separate pieces of enclosed ground to enjoy — a small front garden and an enclosed rear patio.

  • Are dogs allowed at Loch Carlingwark Lodge 2 year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions, and with Carlingwark Loch at the end of the street offering birdlife year round, it's a destination that has something to offer in any season. The nearby Threave estate walk and the wider Galloway landscape make it a strong choice whenever you visit.

  • What should I know before visiting Loch Carlingwark Lodge 2 with my dog?

The booking is limited to one dog, so it's worth bearing that in mind if you have more than one. On the plus side, your dog gets two enclosed outdoor spaces — the front garden and the rear patio — and the Threave estate walk is just 1.1 miles from the door, making it an easy daily outing rather than a planned trip.
