Polaris is tucked against a long hedge in a quiet corner of a working farm near Tarporley, with fields all around and an expansive view over the Cheshire plains. Shacks invite you to bring your favourite person and your four legged friend, and it is a cosy, dog friendly cabin with everything you need for a few slow days.

A wire fence runs immediately around the cabin, though Shacks say a dog will be able to get out of it, so a lead or long line is wise outside. Crops grow in the field around it, and the farmer may call by during your stay. Close the gates behind you as you head up the farm track.

Out front, the decking is made for slow mornings with coffee and evenings watching the sunset, and just beyond it a sunken outdoor bath overlooks the rolling countryside. A stream runs past the cabin, the wood burner is lit in winter and the outdoor chairs come out in summer, and the dog will happily stretch out on the decking while the light goes.

The Boot Inn is a short walk from Polaris, with a beer garden and an open fire, and Tarporley's historic village centre has cafés and shops for a morning out with the dog. The Sandstone Trail and the woodland paths around Beeston Castle are close, and Delamere Forest is great for walking.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Polaris dog friendly?

Yes, Polaris is a dog-friendly cabin for two people and their dog, set at the top of a Cheshire farm track with wide views over the Cheshire plain. There's a wire fence around the cabin as a boundary marker, and with the gates shut on the way up your dog can mooch around on a long line while you relax on the deck.

  • Are dogs allowed at Polaris year round?

Dogs are welcome year round, though there's one seasonal thing worth knowing: the surrounding land is shot for pheasant on Saturday mornings between October and January. It's not constant shooting, but if your dog is sensitive to loud bangs, heading out for a walk on those mornings is a sensible plan.

  • What should I know before visiting Polaris with my dog?

The cabin sits at the end of a farm track, so there's a bit of a climb from the car with your gear — worth bearing in mind if you're packing heavy. The wire fence around the cabin is a boundary guide rather than a secure enclosure, as Shacks are upfront that a determined dog can get through it, so it's best to use a long line rather than leave your dog unsupervised outside. The land around is cropped rather than grazed, and the Sandstone Trail and paths around Beeston Castle are close by for proper walks.
