High on the hill on the fringes of Middleton, Riber View looks out on far reaching panoramic views, with two places outside to take them in. It is a pet friendly cottage for three, and one dog comes too, to a dog friendly corner of Derbyshire where walking and cycle trails lead off in every direction.
Through the entrance porch, the kitchen diner carries a wine fridge beside the dishwasher and a farmhouse dining table for planning the day while the dog waits by the door for the plan to start. The lounge is cosy and flooded with light, with comfy sofas, a TV and DVD player and lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Up the stairs, beautiful matching furniture fills the king size bedroom, which shares more of those views, the single looks over the tiered rear garden, and the bathroom offers a bath and overhead shower.
Outside there are two delightful seating spots. The enclosed rear garden has a dramatic retaining stone wall as its backdrop, with interesting planting in the nooks and crannies and a table for a meal in the open air, and it is the dog's own patch of the hillside. At the front, a bench looks out over the views, which are just as dramatic.
Just over a mile from the cottage, Middleton Top's restored engine house hires out bikes for the High Peak Trail, and the trails lead a dog on to Black Rocks, Carsington, Bonsall and the Cromford Canal. The village has the National Stone Centre and the Derbyshire Eco Centre, Wirksworth, a historic market town, lies a couple of miles away, and Matlock Bath, 4 miles away, is where the cable car rises to the Heights of Abraham.
