Sirius

Tarporley, Cheshire

Sleeping four with a custom made bunk bed and welcoming dogs, Sirius sits against the trees on a farm near Tarporley, steps from the Sandstone Trail, with an outdoor bath and a stream.

Book now

Sirius sleeps four, thanks to its new custom made bunk bed, so families and friends can bring the dog and share one cabin. It is tucked up against some trees down a farm track near Tarporley, with fields stretching out to views of Beeston Castle and a stream running past, and it is a wonderful dog friendly base for the Cheshire countryside.

The cabin has no fence directly around it and the field is open at the entrance, so Shacks recommend keeping dogs on leads. The surrounding field is used for crops, and very occasionally you may see the farmer harvesting or herding cattle. From the parking it is an easy walk along a level track.

Light the wood burner in winter, or pull up an outdoor chair on summer evenings with the barbecue going and the sound of the stream, then finish the day in the outdoor bath. One thing for dog owners to know: from October to January the surrounding countryside is used for pheasant shooting on Saturday mornings, with around half an hour of activity near the cabin between 9am and 1pm, and some guests simply take the dog out for the morning.

The Sandstone Trail is just footsteps from the cabin, covering some of the finest walking in Cheshire, and Beeston Castle's woodland paths are close by. Delamere Forest is wonderful for a longer walk with the dog, and the 16th century Swan is a lovely spot for a meal.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Sirius dog friendly?

Yes, Sirius is built around the idea of bringing the whole family including the dog. It's the one Shacks cabin that sleeps four, with a custom bunk above the double, and it sits on a working farm outside Tarporley with fields, a stream past the door, and the Sandstone Trail virtually on the doorstep.

  • Are dogs allowed at Sirius year round?

Dogs are welcome throughout the year, though there is one seasonal thing to be aware of. From October to January, the surrounding land is shot for pheasant on Saturday mornings, with around half an hour of activity near the cabin between nine and one. Guests with gun shy or nervous dogs often simply head out for the morning and return to a quiet afternoon.

  • What should I know before visiting Sirius with my dog?

There's no fence around the cabin and the field is open at the gateway, so a lead or long line is a good idea when you're outside. The surrounding fields are arable rather than grazed, which means no livestock to worry about, and the farmer is the only regular passer by. The track to the cabin can be muddy — the farm leaves wellies in the log store by the car park, which gives you a fair idea of what to expect for your dog's legs too.
