The Barn - Brassington

Brassington, Derbyshire

A four bedroom barn conversion for six at Brassington near Matlock with a small enclosed lawn, a ground floor bedroom, a wood burner and two dogs welcome.

Book now

Brassington is a village of limestone houses on the White Peak plateau, and the rocks begin at the end of it. The Barn sleeps six here, dog friendly, four bedrooms and a bathroom, with a small enclosed lawn and a patio outside. Two dogs are welcome. One of the four bedrooms sits on the ground floor, and that is where a dog which has given up on stairs should sleep.

Six people across four rooms is more space than most barns this size give, and it comes from that downstairs single, which has a trundle beneath it and a pull-out besides, so the sleeping flexes without anybody sharing who would rather not. The wood burner has its first basket of logs waiting and a welcome pack is left out on arrival. Two dogs get the lawn and the seating on the patio beyond it.

This is a stay for a family, or for two couples who mean to be outdoors all day. Six people and one bathroom works precisely because nobody is in the house much, and the barn keeps the low ceilings and thick stone walls it started with. Two dogs will spend the day up on the tops and the evening flat out in front of the burner, which is about the right division of a week here.

Harborough Rocks stand 0.2 miles from the door, a limestone outcrop with a cave used since long before the Romans, and the whole plateau laid out from the top. Carsington Water lies 1.7 miles the other way with a loop running right round the reservoir. The High Peak Trail crosses between the two. Two dogs get all three without anybody starting a car.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is The Barn - Brassington dog friendly?

Yes, The Barn welcomes up to two dogs. Outside there's a small enclosed lawn and a patio where your dogs can settle, and the surrounding area — including Harborough Rocks just 0.2 miles away and Carsington Water at 1.7 miles — means they'll have no shortage of good walking on the doorstep.

  • Are dogs allowed at The Barn - Brassington year round?

The listing doesn't specify any seasonal restrictions on dogs, and the description paints a picture of year-round stays — a wood burner with a first basket of logs waiting suggests it's well set up for colder months too. It's always worth confirming directly with the owner if you're planning a winter visit.

  • What should I know before visiting The Barn - Brassington with my dog?

The barn accepts a maximum of two dogs, and there's a ground floor bedroom specifically noted as the right place for a dog who has given up on stairs — handy if yours isn't keen on climbing. The enclosed lawn gives them a safe outdoor space, and with Harborough Rocks, Carsington Water and the High Peak Trail all reachable on foot, you won't need to load them into the car to find a proper run out.
